8F LMS Steam Train Blank Birthday or Fathers Day Card by John Austin FGRA
Showing how busy the railways of the 1960s could be, the artist includes among other locomotives a Stanier 8F freight locomotive, Stanier Duchess and an early 08 diesel shunter. Even at this late stage of steam, some sheds continued to out-shop their locos in relatively clean condition, though in many cases this was more down to the crew.
The 8F was a fantastic design, utilising many parts from the earlier Jubilee and Black 5s, though being a dedicated freight engine. A large number had served with the War Department during WWII and a number are now preserved.
