One of the lastGresley designs, the K4 was specifically built for the twisting. steeply gradedroutes of Scotland. Though only six were built, they soon gained a reputationas superb engines, though their rough riding on the leveller parts of theroutes did not always endear them to their crews.
In John Austin'srailway blank birthday greetings card, two locomotives meet with Ben Nevis inthe background. 3442 is The Great Marquess, while 3443 is Cameronof Lochiel. 3442 would happily be preserved.
