While being quite small engines, Ivatt’s 2MT 2-6-0 locomotives were really rather powerful and gave all regions of British Railways a very welcome boost on the smaller, lighter laid lines where larger engines could not work. Sharing parts with the tank engines of the 84000 series, the locos were also very economical to build .
