Routemaster Bus Birthday and Greeting Card from a painting by transport artist Malcolm Root FGRA

The iconic RM London bus was first introduced in 1956 and quickly gained favour with drivers, conductors and passengers alike.

The size of the bus was a problem however, especially to county and inner-London workings. With a change in the law governing the maximum length of a twin-axle bus, the lengthened RML was brought into service in 1961. The extra 2' 6" (75cm) allowed for a maximum of 72 seated passengers and this became the standard for later production vehicles, the last of which came off the line in 1968.

Malcolm Root FGRA's shows one of the green RML operated by the county services of London Transport.
