Mike Jefferies - National Service - Bedford QL
Bedford QLD Truck with National Service soldiers in the 1950s
One of the most important trucks used by the British Army in WWII, the Bedford QL family had a long and successful post war career also. The family, which included artillery tractors, cargo carriers, troop carriers, radio vehicles and gun portees, would be rationalised after the war and supplied the backbone of transport used at National Service depots.
Replaced by the Bedford RL from 1959, the QL found a second life in the civil sector with Fairgrounds and breakdown firms among others to appreciate the rugged dependability of Bedford's classic design.
