London Transport Q Type 1950s Bus Blank Greeting Card by Transport Artist Mike Jefferies
It is hard to believe but the Q Type prototype made its debut in the early 1930s and casued a sensation as one of the first buses to move away from having its engine at the front. While ahead of their time and reasonably successful only a relatively small number were built and all the Q Types had been removed from service by the late 1950s. They did however prove the benefits of having space at the front of the vehicle and today it is front-engined buses that are very much in the minority.
This one is seen on a Richmond route in around 1950 with a more conventional AEC single-decker behind.
