Scammell Highwayman tanker blank birthday / greetings card by transport artist Mike Jefferies
One of the first models produced after the joining of Scammell as part
of the Leyland group, the Highwayman was a successful tractor unit, popular
with tanker companies in particular. They were built with a Leyland engine and
other off the shelf parts to make them cheaper and easier to produce but with
the same build-quality as previous vehicles. Used as a stand-alone unit
or as a ballast tractor, the Highwayman would be produced in relatively small
numbers and replaced by the larger Crusader by 1960.
