Built by B.R's Western Region as part of their range of Diesel
hydraulic locomotives the first 'Hymek' was delivered in 1961. Taking over
secondary passenger and freight workings the class extended to 101 examples,
though none were named.
The class were withdrawn from 1971 as B.R standardised on Diesel-Electric traction. Four examples have been preserved.
