Peter Collins in the 12-Cylinder Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa during the 1958 Targa Florio Original Oil Painting by Stuart Booth
Peter Collins in the 12 cylinder 3-litre Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa, he shared with Phil Hill for a fourth place finish in the 1958 Targa Florio through the mountains of Sicily. The name Testa Rossa, ‘Red Head’ in Italian, derived from the red painted cam boxes. This car, one of the early examples of the model, wears the iconic and unconventional Scarglietti designed ‘pontoon fender’ bodywork. This body style was short lived as it was found to create front end lift and was soon replaced with more conventional bodywork. Behind Collins is a 2-litre four-cylinder Testa Rossa driven to seventh place by Starrabba and Cortese.
The race was won by the conventionally bodied 250TR of Musso and Gendebien.
