Entering service in 1949, the Dennis F7 and later F12 became the standard fire engines for brigades the length and breadth of the UK for the next twenty years. 

 

They entered service at a time when there was an urgent need for new vehicles to replace the aging pre-WWII designs and as such the Home Office had to strictly allocate them to the most needy brigades at first.
