After the success of the
500cc Speed Twin, Edward Turner, chief designer at Triumph identified a need
for a larger twin, principally for the American market. The Thunderbird was
this motorcycle, with an engine capacity of 650cc.
The Thunderbird was an
instant hit and was riden by Marlon Brando in the iconic film 'The Wild One', after
which demand for all Triumph twins became almost insatiable.
