Darryl Legg Aviation Art Print showing a DH.60 Gipsy Moth

A Moth over Africa - The de Havilland DH.60 Gipsy Moth

The trailblazing spirit of the 1930s and de Havilland go hand-in-hand. Whether it be Amy Johnson and her famous Moth "Jason" or the DH.88 Comet in the MacRobertson Air Race, the successes of the Hatfield-based company at this time were many and varied

In this scene from 1935, Lady Young flies her personal DH. 60G Gipsy Moth north over the Victoria Falls to Livingstone, Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia). The following day, she departed for Lusaka, but en route her aircraft was blown off course and crashed. Lady Young survived with minor injuries and two days later was reunited with her husband, Sir Hubert Young, Governor of Northern Rhodesia.
