Flying a withdrawal support mission in his 56 FG P-47 razorback on
3/27/44, led by Lt Col Gabreski and the 61st FS, they crossed-in at Fecamp at
1454, and made RV with the returning 3rd Division B-17s at La Reche at 1530.
Over the Loire River, northeast of Nantes, a pair of Me-109s were seen,
so Gabreski went after them and destroyed them both. These were his
seventeenth and eighteenth kills
