The air war over New Guinea was both intense and bitter with units of both the USAAF and RAAF using the Curtiss P-40 in action against the Japanese.
This particular P-40E is the well-known "Typhoon McGoon" of Lt. Clyde V. Kinsley while serving with the 7th FS, 49th Fighter Group. Kinsley would complete a combat tour with the 49th before a second tour in Europe on P-47 Thunderbolts.
