Malcolm Root FGRA Railway Art Print featuring British Railways Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0 class locomotive
The need to replace elderly locomotives then in use on branchlines resulted in a series of 2MT tender and tank locomotives. Originally designed under the guise of the LMS, George Ivatt's design would become a mainstay of the British Railways fleet, later locomotives using standard B.R fittings.
This particular locomotive, 46455 was built in 1950 and would serve most of its life in the north of England and Scotland. The locomotive is seen on one of its regular turns at Keswick with an evening train to Cockermouth. The locomotive would be withdrawn in 1967.
