Malcolm Root FGRA Railway Art Print featuring British Railways 7MT Britannia class locomotives
Gateway to East Anglia - The Great Eastern Main LIne
The 7MT "Britannia" class brought such an improvement in performance to the former Great Eastern lines of BR running from Liverpool Street that the timetable had to be re-written to get the best from them. Powerful and free-steaming, they were loved by footplate crews and passengers alike. Despite a troubled start these fine Pacifics would prove their ability time and time again, the ‘Brits’ being seen on the region until the end of express steam in the early 1960s.
Here we see 70036 ‘Boadicea’ and 70037 ‘Hereward the Wake’ at Liverpool Street early in their respective careers, probably around 1955.
