Duchess of Sutherland Railway Art Birthday Card by Railway Artist Malcolm Root
To celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s 60 years on the throne, numerous special events were organised, including the Queen travelling in the Royal Train, being hauled by Duchess class locomotive 6233 (formerly 46233) Duchess of Sutherland to several events.
The magnificent Duchess, resplendent in her Crimson Lake livery was fitted with a special plaque on the smokebox door to commemorate the occasion and, as can be seen from the painting, was warmly greeted wherever she was seen.
