Malcolm Root FGRA Railway Art Print featuring British Railways English Electric Type 3 Diesel
By Rail To The Continent - The Boat Trains
Malcolm Root’s The Hook Continental beautifully captures the atmosphere of one of the Great Eastern main line’s most evocative services — the Liverpool Street to Harwich boat train connecting with sailings to the Hook of Holland.
The English Electric Type 3 (Class 37) began appearing in East Anglia in 1962, with allocations to Stratford (30A) shed in London. From their introduction, they increasingly took over passenger and mixed-traffic duties from the earlier Class 40s, particularly on routes from Liverpool Street to Norwich, Yarmouth and Cambridge.
