British Railways Class 42 Diesel 'Warship' Class Railway Birthday Card by Neville Robinson
British Railways Type 4 "Warship" class diesil-hydraulic locomotives were introduced in 1958 and built at BR's Swindon Works. They were built to replace the "Kings" and "Castle" steam locomotives that hauled the West of England trains over the stiff gradients between Exeter and Plymouth. Neville Robinson's fine painting of "Zest" and "Zulu" on a double header through Sonning Cutting will rekindle many memories for those trainspotters who spent many times here.
