Aston Martin DBR 1 Le Mans Winning Racing Car

This is a very recent painting featuring one of the 1959 Aston Martin Sports Racing team cars chassis number 4. This particular car was driven to second place at Le Mans in 1959 by Maurice Trintignant and Paul Frere, the winning car that year being the sister car driven by Roy Salvadori and Carroll Shelby.

 2013 is the centenary year for Aston Martin and there have been many celebration events held throughout the summer. I had the chance to visit The Aston Martin Heritage Trust housed in a beautifully restored timber-framed barn in Drayton St Leonard, Oxfordshire, earlier this year. This car was displayed alongside some of the drawing office artefacts from the old Aston Martin factory. I thought the setting would make a good painting which has turned out very well, and has been well received by all who have seen it.
