Originally designed for the U.S Navy, most Model 239 Buffalo’s were diverted to Finland where the type became a sensation. Despite being totally outclassed elsewhere, during the Continuation war of 1941-44 aircraft of the Il Suo managed a kill ratio of 26:1, the highest by any type in use by a single nation during the war. The aircraft was that well loved that the Finn’s even considered making their own version of the aircraft. A prototype was built but production did not take place.
