initials, this is Spitfire Mk.IX EN398 flown by Wg. Cdr. J.E 'Johnnie' Johnson
while in command of the Kenley Wing in early 1943. Britain's most successful
pilot of WWII with 38 victories, Johnson scored 12 victories and 5 shared
victories while piloting the aircraft. EN398 was also used by Sqn. Ldr. Robert McNair
to claim an Fw-190, making the aircraft one of the most successful Spitfires of
the war.
