45xx Locomotive Great Western Railway Art Print by Artist Stuart Booth
For many holiday-makers in the days of steam many a holiday began with the last leg of the journey being done on a small rural branchline.
The branchlines of the former GWR were well served by both small and large tank engines such as the 14xx, 61xx and 45xx classes. Hauling small trains and also being used to move local freight the regular driver and his charge were a welcome sight in many small towns and villages.
This
piece depicts one such branchline with a 45xx hauling a two coach local train.
