Born in the British Army Hospital in Poona, India in 1931, Charles became fascinated with aircraft at an early age and had numerous chances to see aircraft while growing up in India. He came to the U.K in 1949 and joined Briggs Motor Bodies, Dagenham as a trainee draughtsman. When Briggs was taken over by the Ford Motor Company, Charles moved to the styling department where he would work for 37 years. His most notable design was the Ford Cortina Mk.I but he worked on other vehicles too, including the Corsair and Classic Capri, while earlier he had worked on the Zephyr/Zodiac family and had a stint in the Detroit design office.
Charles joined the Guild of Aviation Artists in the early 1980s and quickly became a leading figure, gaining Associate membership in 1982 and full membership in 1984. He has held many posts within the organisation, including a stint as Chairman.
The Originals we have for sale are just some created by him during a career of over forty years.
