BAe Nimrod - 201 Squadron

Derived from the Comet airliner, Nimrod replaced the ageing Avro Shackleton in the maritime reconnaissance role from 1970.

Although an important link in the air defence of Great Britain, the aircraft suffered a number of accidents in service and gave trouble to both air and ground crews alike. Due to growing concerns over the safety of the type it was grounded in the Defence Review of 2011.
