East German MiG-21 Aviation Art Print by Darryl Legg
Warsaw Pact Warrior - The MiG-21
The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21, known to NATO as the “Fishbed”, was the principal supersonic fighter of the East German Luftstreitkräfte der Nationalen Volksarmee (LSK/NVA) during the Cold War. Compact, fast and instantly recognisable due to its delta wing and prominent nose intake, the MiG-21 combined simple ruggedness with formidable performance. East Germany received several versions, from early MiG-21F-13 interceptors to radar-equipped PF and PFM aircraft. The service also used the MiG-21M, MF and bis fighters, and two-seat training variants.
This MiG-21bis of Fighter Squadron 8, is seen low over the Niederfinow boat lift, North East of Berlin, in 1988.
