FV432 and Westland Wessex - BAOR APC & 18 Squadron Helicopter Painting Art Print by Lee Lacey AGAvA
During exercises in both the 1970s and 1980s affiliation was perfected between the infantry and the RAF Transport squadrons. The Westland Wessex in this scene is from 18 Sqn in around 1980. 18 Sqn was the main transport Squadron in Germany for much of the post-war era, firstly with Wessex and from late 1980 the Chinook.
The vehicle seen in this picture is the standard British APC from the mid 1960s, the FV432. These vehicles have had a long and successful service with the army, many still in service as specialised vehicles and upgraded to the 'Bulldog' which served admirably in both Afghanistan and Iraq.
The painting is set during Exercise Spearpoint 80.
