Grumman C-2A Greyhound Aviation Art Print by Darryl Legg

Fleet Provider - The Grumman C-2A Greyhound

The Grumman C-2A Greyhound was designed to provide Carrier Onboard Delivery (COD) for the U.S. Navy. Introduced in 1966, it was developed from the E-2 Hawkeye airframe to transport personnel, mail, and critical supplies between shore bases and aircraft carriers at sea. With its large rear loading ramp, powerful Allison turboprop engines, and folding wings for carrier storage, the C-2A proved a rugged and dependable workhorse. Capable of carrying up to 10,000 pounds of cargo or 26 passengers, it became an essential logistical link in naval operations worldwide. Updated in the 1980s as the C-2A(R) with modernized avionics and structural improvements, the Greyhound continued to serve decades later, being valued for its reliability. The unit seen in Darryl's US Navy Art Print, VRC-30 were the last to use the type, with the aircraft making their final operational flight in September 2023. the aircraft is seen flying over CVN-71 Theodore Roosevelt, on one of its last flights.
