Southend Transport Open-Topped Bus by Transport Artist Malcolm Root
Southend and its associated arcades and pleasure beach has been a very successful tourist attraction and get-away spot for people from London for well over a hundred years. Served by two railway lines from London, the town and sea front grew with famous local landmarks such as the Kursal and in later years the Peter Pan playground. Here we see a typical 1950s-60s scene with one of Southend Transports open-toppers proving popular, the destination board showing some well-known Essex towns.
