Railway Steam Locomotive Birthday Card - 4491 Commonwealth of Australia

Coming in the third batch of A4s to be built, 4491 was built in June 1937 for the special “Coronation” service. These middle-batch A4s were named after commonwealth countries and had stainless steel numbers and letters when first built, instead of the usual painted ones.

Resplendent in the Garter Blue livery of the later A4’s, Commonwealth of Australia stands at York shed, the lowly J52 in the background creating a real contrast to the cutting edge of 1930s railway technology.

This wonderful railway art birthday card by Malcolm Root FGRA would be ideal for any lover of the LNER, its locomotives or the East Coast Main Line in general.
