Motorcycle Marques - Ducati 900SS Desmo and Mike Hailwood
Ducati 900SS Desmo and Mike Hailwood Motorbike Birthday Greetings Card by Motorcycle Artist Lee Lacey AGAvA
Two highly desirable Ducati motorcycles are shown in this painting. The Mike Hailwood Replica or MHR as it is commonly known was released by Ducati after the victory of Mike Hailwood on a specially tuned Ducati during the 1978 Isle of Man TT (See our John Hancox Card). The 900cc motorcycle would be built until 1983 and in true racing style was not fitted with an electric starter!
The 900SS Desmo can be seen as the direct descendent to the MHR and was a development of the company's 750cc machines of a few years earlier. The Desmo reached the streets in 1975 and immediately gained favour with the public for its appearance and performance. The particular model seen stayed in production until the early 1980s when the toned-down Darmah became available. The Darmah was not to become the sales success Ducati had hoped for though as, ironically, it was outsold by the MHR.
The original oil on canvas board painting from which our cards and prints are taken is currently available. It measures 16" x 12" (406mm x 305mm), with a framed size of 20" x 16" (508mm x 406mm
