Darryl Legg Aviation Art Print featuring a Fairey Albacore
Swordfish Replacement - Fairey Albacore
Another in Darryl Legg's portraits of Fleet Air Arm aircraft from WWII is this lovely depiction of a lone Fairey Albacore. Designed to replace the Swordfish, the "Apple-core" as she was sometimes known was a useful addition to the Fleet's inventory of aircraft, and were used extensively in the Mediterranean as both a Carrier-borne and land-based bomber and torpedo bomber. The aircraft's service would be relatively short as it would be replaced by Fairey's own Barracuda and the Grumman Avenger, which were overly more modern designs.
