Ocean Liner Art Print of the Cristoforo Colombo by Artist John Stewart
Sister-ship of the ill-fated Andrea Doria, Cristoforo Colombo was to have an all together better career.
Built at the Ansaldo Shipyards, Genoa and launched in 1953, the ship would enter traffic in 1954 and act as the flagship of the company after the loss of her sister until 1965.
With the coming of
airline travel, the ship was retired from the Atlantic route in 1973 but was
retained for use on the Buenos Aires trip. This prolonged her life by only a
few years and after serving as an accommodation ship in Venezuela was finally
scrapped in 1982.
