Cunard Lines Ocean / Cruise Liner QE2 Leaving Southampton
The last of the great Cunard liners that had started with Britannia in the 1860s, QE2 was also the ship that would secure the company's future and prove the fruitfulness of the cruise business.
For a number of years the worlds largest passenger ship, the 67,000 ton ship had been built at the John Brown yard and completed in mid 1968. Her sea trials commenced in November of that year but several faults and failures saw the ship taken commence on her maiden voyage only on 2 May 1969
