The uprising against Sadaam Hussein's regime in 1991 resulted in mass persecution of the Kurdish community. Refugee's began fleeing for the Turkish border, resulting in a humanitarian problem. In early March a no-fly zone was introduced in the country and later the UN passed a resolution for Operation Provide Comfort to provide humanitarian aid. The two main craft used were the CH-47 Chinhook and CH-53 Sea Stallion.
