By using gliders of various shapes and sizes both sides were able to deploy troops and equipment beyond the frontline fighting. With the British, the men of the Glider Pilot Regiment were specially trained to ensure safe conveyance of their precious cargo, then to join the fight in whatever guise they deemed necessary. The bravery of these men would be paramount to the success of operations such as Overlord and Varsity.
