Ocean Liner Marine Painting Print of the United States Lines SS United States by Maritime Artist John Stewart
The magnificent United States powers along in the open sea on the sea trials where she reportedly achieved 43 knots. Whether or not this true leviathan of Ocean-going travel achieved such a speed is questioned in some quarters but she was able to take the Blue Riband not long after and still retains it to this day.
In John Stewart's painting, the ship is shown surrounded by open water, showing that even these magnificent machines were mere dots in an otherwise vast body of water.
